Dementia : A worldwide Public Health Priority

The neuronal tau protein is associated with tauopathies, most notably Alzheimer’s disease. Tauopathies are characterised by intraneuronal aggregation of tau protein into filaments causing neurofibrillary degeneration and synaptic dysfunction, which lead to dementia.

In the coming years, we will have to face many demographic changes which will increase the mean age of the population in Europe, and therefore the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
There is an urgent need to provide society with better diagnostics and disease-modifying treatments for these diseases. To address this problem and meet the unprecedented medical demand, a new generation of scientists must be trained.
It is to meet this urgent need that TAME (TAuimMunE), Europe’s first Tau network, has been created.

Our objectives

TAME Doctoral Network

The TAME network expands the scope of research collaboration geographically connecting 9 beneficiaries in 7 European countries and 7 associated partners, across tauopathies and across disciplines.

We have teamed-up to combine molecular and cellular neuroscience with computing, chemical and bio-engineering and their technology expertise between academia and industry.

Thanks to our unique network of world-class scientists, we have established an interdisciplinary research and innovation training programme in order to overcome the current fragmentation of research and knowledge in tauopathies and to create a new generation of multidisciplinary researchers able to integrate scientific knowledge and accelerate personalised diagnosis and treatments in tauopathies.

TAME Beneficiaries

TAME  Beneficiaries share the same objectives of breakthrough advances in the diagnostics and treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and related tauopathies.

TAME Supervisors

TAME supervisors are leading academics and industrial scientists dedicated to the training of the Fellows of the project.

TAME Training

TAME offers a dedicated joint research programme in the diagnosis and treatment of tauopathies, anchored on Nanobody-based immune approaches targeting tau.
